Our History

Joseph and Kate Andres
In 1881, the funeral home was begun under the direction of John Andres Sr.  After the death of John Andres, Sr. in 1912, Joseph Andres and his wife took over the business.  At that time, there were no funeral homes similar to today’s funeral homes.  Funerals were normally conducted at private homes until state law required special types of preparation.

The first funeral home was located at the crossing in Dover, at the intersection of State Route 1 and North Dearborn Road, across from the residence of Joseph Andres.  This arrangement existed until the present funeral home was built in 1962 and relocated as the Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home at 25615 State Route 1.

Edith Andres Wuestefeld & John Andres
Edith Andres Wuestefeld operated the funeral home with her mother after the death of her father, Joseph Andres, in 1942.  Edith eventually assumed complete responsibility for funeral operations.

John Wuestefeld

John Wuestefeld joined the funeral home business in 1965.  After the death of his mother Edith in 1979, John became the owner and director of the present Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home.

John continues the tradition of excellence in serving the community as his family has done over past generations.  His main focus has been to offer personalized service with the sincerest concern for those who suffer the loss of a loved one.
